Feasibility Study Solid Waste Management for South-East Albania

There are approx. 250.000 inhabitants on 3.500 km in the Prefecture of Korça. While the waste collection is operated sufficiently the disposal is carried out on unsecured dump sites. Many problems for the health of the inhabitants and the environment arise in the sensible basin of Korça and the protected Lake Ohrid.

The project focusses therefore on the development of an integrated solid waste management system, establishing an affordable and environmental sound disposal of wastes.

Main precondition for all measures and investments is the affordability by the beneficiaries. It is of major importance to involve the entire region to participate in the new system in order to spread the high fix costs of the central facilities. Therefore the establishment of a solid waste management union covering all 4 districts of South-East Albania is a crucial working step.
