Landfill Site Selection for Wastes of Category I in the Frankfurt a.M. region (incl. EIA) - Umlandverband Frankfurt

In 1988, the planning and engineering company INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT was assigned by Umlandverband Frankfurt (UVF) to select suitable sites in the Frankfurt region on the basis of the “examination catalog for landfill site selection for household and household like commercial waste – wastes of category I” from Hessian Regional Office for Environment.

The implementation of the site selection was carried out in three phases:

Phase I:

Area-wide negative/positive mapping and analyse of the situation

Result: 14 interim suitable landfill sites

Phase II:

Comparable environmental impact analysis of the 14 interim landfill sites

Result: Prior suitable landfill sites

Phase III:

Environmental impact assessment of the selected landfill site in Brandholz-new for the plan-approval procedure

Result: The realisation of the project would partially affect the nature and landscape and cause non-compensable interferences. The effects on other subjects of protection; living and working areas, groundwater, were classified as unimportant.
