Regional Solid Waste Management System for the Trabzon-Rize Inter-Municipal Union (TRAB-RI-KAB)

The members of the municipal association TRAB-RI-KAB are intending to implement an advanced cost-efficient and environmental-friendly Solid Waste Management System in the provinces of Trabzon and Rize. Main bottleneck in the region is the lack of suitable landfill sites leading to the necessity of waste pre-treatment measures.

Within the Concept Study the present system was analysed and an advanced solid waste management system was developed identifying appropriate solutions for the region. The approved recommendations of the Concept Study Report were elaborated up to a feasibility level to clarify their technical and economical feasibility considering their socio-economic and environmental impacts making a financial assessment of the related costs possible.

Results

Investment project including one transfer station, a mechanical-biological waste treatment, co-combustion in the cement plant and a sanitary landfill located in an old copper pit.
