The Development of the German-Polish Future Concept has started

On October 21, 2014, the German-Polish territorial planning commission has decided to develop a common future concept for the German-Polish border region. The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (“Bundesinstitut für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung (BBSR)”) commissioned INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT (IU) with the implementation of the project. The cartographical part is realised in cooperation with Katrin Soschinski Cartography Geodesign.

The concept includes the most important common programmatic conceptions of spatial development for the Polish-German border region with a view to the year 2030. It shows general directions of the spatial development with cartographical representations and images. The map is supplemented by short explanations.

A working group was set up for the process of concept development. This working group includes representatives of the German-Polish territorial planning commission representing local authorities. The process is coordinated by the Institute of Territorial Development of the province of Lower Silesia in cooperation with BBSR and Joint Regional Planning Berlin-Brandenburg. The working group met for the first time in Słubice on 8 September 2015.

The concept will be completed and adopted by the German-Polish territorial planning commission by the end of 2016 and subsequently by the German-Polish governmental commission on regional and cross-border cooperation.

Contact person for the concept development is Dr. Jürgen Neumüller, Martin Reents und Christian Gering (IU).
