Adaptation to climate change in the municipalities of Lohmar, Much and Ruppichteroth

Three municipalities in the northern Rhein-Sieg-Kreis continue to achieve their common aim: sustainability and responsible handling of climate protection and climate change. At the kickoff for the project “Development of an adaptation concept to climate change in the municipalities of Lohmar, Much and Ruppichteroth”, those responsible of the three municipalities and the common climate protection manager coordinated their expectations with the contractor.

Since beginning of October, INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT is in charge of project processing. Analysis of the vulnerability, strategy development for climate change adaptation, planning of measures and prioritisation as well as development of implementation concept for the measures will be integrated in the working processes in close collaboration with numerous stakeholders. This involves the determination of priority problems and key activities, but also to detect synergy effects to use capacities for climate change adaptation optimally.

The most important fields of investigation are heat, heavy rainfall, flooding risks, hail and lightning. The aim is to achieve a jointly developed action programme.

The project is funded by the Climate Initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. It started in October 2015 and is scheduled to end in August 2016.
