Kick-off for CAN Capitalisation Project: Towards an Integrated Approach to Energy Retrofit in Urban Neighbourhoods

The CAN project, awarded as the most innovative regional project in Europe in the category "Development of Climate-Resilient Cities", starts into a two-year project capitalisation phase: In order to reduce greenhouse gases in urban neighbourhoods and contribute to a green recovery from the COVID 19 crisis, the existing approach to support energy retrofits for private households in residential buildings will be complemented by approaches for SMEs in non-residential and mixed-use buildings. The project thus makes a valuable contribution to the implementation of the renovation wave strategy of the EU Green Deal.

During the kick-off meeting, which had to take place online due to the pandemic, the five active project partners from Belgium, France, Germany and Ireland updated one another. They shared their planned activities, and discussed potential challenges and opportunities for mutual support and cooperation. The meeting paved the ground for the upcoming project work and the first milestones and deadlines were agreed upon.

INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT (IU) supports the project with an overall finance and project management as well as a content-wise coordination of the project’s tasks. By supporting the preparation and coordination of the meeting, IU also contributed to a successful start of the new project phase.
